Eeeeek its nearly time for the dressmakers ball! This is a quick post to show you what I have made.
Ballgowns are not my kinda thing, although that may be because I've never been to a ball.
When planning what to make I decided on separates to ensure that I would get plenty of wear out of the outfit after the ball, after all it would be such a shame to only wear it once.
I used the pattern for pirates wiggle dress for the top, and used stretch velvet which was from the remnant basket at Abakhans. The roses around the shoulders were actually a happy accident as I must have used the wrong elastic at the shoulders and found that it was flicking back on itself. I decided to handsew the roses which keeps it firmly in place, I also added a pearl at the centre of each rose.
The top was really easy to make and was completed in just over an hour!
For the skirt I used a simple circle skirt pattern from pattern emporium, and opted for an elasticated waist to ensure that I will remain comfortable after a drink or 6 and lots of lovely food. My intention was to add a silk ribbon tie around the waist but this looked too much with the heavy floral fabric so I opted for a bow belt instead.
This amazing fabric was from Minerva crafts and was £1.99 per meter (crazy price) but sadly it has now sold out so I'm unable to link to it.
The fabric was surprisingly easy to work with, but I did have to sew individual roses around the hem otherwise there would have been half chopped roses which would not have been a great look. I simply cut off individual roses from the fabric remnants, pinned them around the hem and stitched them on using the sewing machine.
The fabric is also sheer, so I am wearing a petticoat underneath.
I'm so happy with how the outfit turned out, its such a simple make but the dramatic fabric makes it feel really special, and its also super comfortable to wear.
I also love that I will get to wear both the skirt and the top lots more times by wearing them as separates.
Thanks for reading and I can't wait to see you at the ball if you are going too :)
