I just love simple 1950's style dresses, and I just love Liberty of London fabric, so the Simple Sew Ruby Dress was the perfect pattern for the Liberty of London Tana Lawn that I had in my stash.
The Liberty of London print that I had is suitable for any season, making this dress even more special! Just look at the detail on the print, just AMAZING!!
The pattern is quite simple to construct with just a bodice front and back, and skirt front and back, I decided to fully line the bodice so I did not use any facings.
When I made this dress I didn't have an invisible zip foot, so boooo to the visible zip!
The darts on this dress give it a lovely shape, it has small side bust darts but really large and curved darts at the bottom of the bodice, it kind of cups the bust.
I like the soft scoop high neckline, and adore the V back, it adds a lovely shape to the dress.
The Simple Sew Ruby Dress is adorable and I will definitely be making more, I think I will add side seam pockets on my next version as I love a pocket in a dress!
It's not too difficult to make but would help if you have experience of working with darts and lining a bodice.
Its a great dress for twirling too!!!
If like me you love 1950's style dress, check out the Sew Over It Betty Dress too!
Thanks for taking a look and I hope it has inspired you to get stuck in and give one a go!!
